You do not need expensive software to browse GIS data. Sometime you just need a GIS viewer to observe how data looks? What is in data? How is it’s attribute table? I have browse the internet to find out some of the free GIS data viewer which can be handy. GIS data might be in different format, might be in shapefile or other software format. Mostly GIS Data viewer are light weight software which has limited functionality and are perfect for browsing data.
Arcgis Explorer Desktop
