As everybody is aware that Z or elevation values are expensive to obtain, so I have listed few places on internet where you can download the world DEM data for free.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model: <\/b>On June 29th, 2009, global DEM was created by the joint operation from NASA and METI (Ministry of<a href=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/image-4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"background-image: none; float: right; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 20px 0px 0px 20px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/image_thumb-4.png\" alt=\"ASTER DEM Image\" width=\"244\" height=\"190\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> Economy, Trade and Industry). It covered 80 percentage of world surface with a 90 meters global resolution excluding USA whose resolution was 30 meters. Later on October 11th, 2011 versions 2 was released which has major improvement upon the version 1.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Download:<\/b> There are different places where you can download the ASTER DEM, first is <a href=\"https:\/\/gdex.cr.usgs.gov\/gdex\/\">LP DAAC Global Data Explorer<\/a> and next is <a href=\"https:\/\/reverb.echo.nasa.gov\/reverb\/#utf8=%E2%9C%93&amp;spatial_map=satellite&amp;spatial_type=rectangle\">NASA Reverb<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Shuttle Radar Topography Mission<\/b> (<b>SRTM<\/b>): Prior to release of the ASTER data, SRTM was the one of the free DEM available on the market. On<a href=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/image-5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"background-image: none; float: right; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 20px 0px 0px 20px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/image_thumb-5.png\" alt=\"SRTM DEM Image\" width=\"244\" height=\"169\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> February 2000 special modified radar flew for 11 day using two antennas and a single pass. It collected sufficient data to generate a digital elevation model using the technology called interferometric synthetic aperture radar (inSAR). On 2014, 30 meters high resolution was released to the public which are arranged in tiles, each covering 1 degree of latitude and 1 degree of longitude.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Download: <\/b>SRTM DEM can be downloaded from the <a href=\"https:\/\/earthexplorer.usgs.gov\/\">USGS Earth Explorer.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Global Digital Surface Model (ALOS World 3D \u2013 30m): <\/b>The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) released the global digital surface<a href=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/image-6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"background-image: none; float: right; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 20px 0px 0px 20px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/image_thumb-6.png\" alt=\"ALOS DEM Image\" width=\"244\" height=\"174\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a> model (DSM) data set with the 30 meters horizontal resolution for free. The Advanced Land Observing Satellite &#8220;DAICHI&#8221; (ALOS) satellite images were compiled to create DEM.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Download:<\/b> You need to register yourself with an email address at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eorc.jaxa.jp\/ALOS\/en\/aw3d30\/registration.htm\">http:\/\/www.eorc.jaxa.jp\/ALOS\/en\/aw3d30\/registration.htm<\/a> and after the confirmation of your request you can download the data from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eorc.jaxa.jp\/ALOS\/en\/aw3d30\/data\/index.htm\">http:\/\/www.eorc.jaxa.jp\/ALOS\/en\/aw3d30\/data\/index.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>GTOPO30:<\/b> It is a digital elevation model for whole world created and distributed by USGS. It has not the greatest resolution, approximately 1 km and split into 33 tiles available in USGS DEM file format. <a href=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/image-7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"background-image: none; float: right; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 20px 0px 0px 20px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/image_thumb-7.png\" alt=\"GTOPO30 DEM Image\" width=\"244\" height=\"169\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Download:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/earthexplorer.usgs.gov\/\">Earth Explorer<\/a> can be used to download the data, it is under the Digital Elevation category.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>ArcGis (ESRI):<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/group.html?owner=esri&amp;title=elevation%20layers&amp;start=1&amp;q=\">ESRI website<\/a> has ready to use different type of Elevation layers that can be open in ArcGIS software or ArcGis Online. After opening in ArcGis you\u00a0can export in different format.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Opendem.info: <\/b>You can <a href=\"http:\/\/opendem.info\/opendemsearcher.html\">download<\/a> high resolution (&lt;=2m) or middle resolution (2-30m) DEM data of few parts of the world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" size=\"2\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>LIDAR Data:<\/b> LIDAR has become very popular medium to survey earth surface and DEM data can be generated quickly and cost effective using LIDAR points. You have to register to download the DEM data.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Continent DEM:<\/b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.viewfinderpanoramas.org\">http:\/\/www.viewfinderpanoramas.org<\/a>, this website has lots of resources and download links.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Finland:<\/b> It has 2m and 5m <a href=\"https:\/\/tiedostopalvelu.maanmittauslaitos.fi\/tp\/kartta\">DEM data available<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Europe:<\/b> EU-DEM is available in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eea.europa.eu\/data-and-maps\/data\/eu-dem\">25 meters<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Canada:<\/b> GeoBase provides Canadian DEM data, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geobase.ca\/\">download here<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>New Zealand:<\/b> It has series of elevation of data to <a href=\"https:\/\/data.linz.govt.nz\/group\/national-elevation\/data\/category\/elevation\/global\/oceania\/new-zealand\/?s=n\">download<\/a>, including LIDAR. Land Information New Zealand has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linz.govt.nz\/data\/linz-data\/elevation-data\">more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Please comment if you know any free DEM data available on the internet<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Austria:<\/b> Austrian map provides DEM data to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austrianmap.at\/amap\/index.php?SKN=1&amp;XPX=637&amp;YPX=492\">download.<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Denmark:<\/b> Different types of elevation data can be downloaded from Kortforsyningen <a href=\"https:\/\/download.kortforsyningen.dk\/content\/geodataprodukter?field_korttype_tid_1=440&amp;field_aktualitet_tid=435&amp;field_datastruktur_tid=All&amp;field_scheme_tid=All\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Netherlands:<\/strong> You can download high resolution DEM and DSM of 0.5m resolution. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdok.nl\/nl\/ahn3-downloads\">Download<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>England (UK):<\/strong>\u00a0Government website provide access to different types of Elevation data including LIDAR data. <a href=\"http:\/\/environment.data.gov.uk\/ds\/survey\/index.jsp#\/survey?grid=SK80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Mexico:<\/b> Free data to download from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inegi.gob.mx\/geo\/default.asp\">INEGI<\/a> , <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beta.inegi.org.mx\/temas\/mapas\/topografia\/\">download<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>Australia:<\/b> Australia government website has different type of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ga.gov.au\/scientific-topics\/national-location-information\/digital-elevation-data\">elevation data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><b>India:<\/b> Indian government space program has <a href=\"https:\/\/data.gov.in\/catalog\/digital-elevation-model-dem-generated-cartosat-1-satellite-data-india\">version 1 and 1.1<\/a> DEM for download free.
