If you do not have a good skill on QGIS tools, then please read my earlier tutorial on <a href=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/software\/qgis\/create-map-and-learn-basics-about-the-qgis\">QGIS Basics.<\/a> Today I thought I should write tutorial on adding X and Y coordinates from the excel file. If you like to read about adding X and Y coordinates on the ArcGIS then I have written\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/software\/arcgis\/5-arcgis-tips\">5 ArcGIS Tips helps you to perform you daily job<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Well if you do not have the QGIS software then download it from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qgis.org\/en\/site\/forusers\/download.html\" target=\"_blank\">homepage.<\/a> I have few longitude and latitude value of world cities. Remember longitude is always <strong>X<\/strong> and latitude is always <strong>Y. <\/strong>If you want to practice on this data, then copy this and paste into excel sheet.<\/p>\n<p>There are are two ways to add X and Y value from Excel into\u00a0QGIS.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A.\u00a0By converting Excel data into Delimited Text<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/d33bb55f205d0a8d377aab748f8e67af.png\" alt=\"x and y values\" width=\"298\" height=\"246\" \/><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 50pt;\">1.<\/span><\/strong>In excel save the table into the Text (Tab delimited)<span style=\"color: #00b050;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/012716_0407_AddXandYCoo1.png\" alt=\"excel save as option\" width=\"626\" height=\"439\" \/><span style=\"color: #00b050;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 50pt;\">2.<\/span><\/strong>Open the QGIS software, for this example I am using QGIS 2.8.2 version. Now click the Layer &gt; Add Layer &gt; Add Delimited Text Layer.<span style=\"color: #00b050;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/012716_0407_AddXandYCoo2.png\" alt=\"add delimited text layer\" width=\"625\" height=\"282\" \/><span style=\"color: #00b050;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 50pt;\">3.<\/span><\/strong>Browse the saved delimited text file (in our case is Book1.txt), then you can assign the layer name. Select the <strong>Custom delimiters <\/strong>which will automatically check mark the Tab option. In table if you already have X and Y field names then it will automatically assigned into appropriate filed, if you have something different then assign your field names in <strong>x field<\/strong> and <strong>y field. <\/strong>Other option leave as it is, after that press <strong>Ok.<span style=\"color: #00b050;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/012716_0407_AddXandYCoo3.png\" alt=\"create layer from delimited text file option window\" width=\"626\" height=\"405\" \/><span style=\"color: #00b050;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 50pt;\">4.<\/span><\/strong>Then\u00a0select the appropriate projection system of your x and y values, for above table the coordinate system is WGS84. Then press <strong>Ok<\/strong> to finish the process.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/012716_0407_AddXandYCoo4.png\" alt=\"Coordinate Reference System\" width=\"615\" height=\"592\" \/><span style=\"color: #00b050;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 50pt;\">5.<\/span><\/strong>After that you will notice points are plotted on the main window.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/012716_0407_AddXandYCoo5.png\" alt=\"Final Output window\" width=\"494\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>B.\u00a0By using XYTools Plugin<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 50pt;\">1.<\/span><\/strong>Download the plugins by going to <strong>Plugins&gt;Manage and Install Plugins<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/grindgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/bb6689ce3503955833cf37a056cfda23.png\" alt=\"Plugins\" width=\"265\" height=\"95\" \/><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 50pt;\">2.<\/span><\/strong>Under the search box type\u00a0Xytools and press Install Plugins.
